creepy crawly

Naboomspruit, South Africa

Yikes! Another "beauty" spotted in my mother's garden!
I can once again just call it a brand wurm (translating
to burn worm in English), and I can honestly not even say
which is the front end and which is the back end, since it
didn't move at all, it just sat there, enjoying the sun
against the treetrunk. The next morning, it was gone.

other sizes: small medium original auto

I recently encountered a light green caterpiller on the grass in my garden which gave a very painful sting which lasted a few days leaving a red scar -- is "brand wurm" a general term or is it specific to the one in the pic?

A cute creepy crawly, but certainly not cuddly!
