I live in Tampa, Florida. Came home this afternoon and found FIVE of these guys hangin out on my front porch! I have never seen them before, have lived in this house for about 12 yrs. We do have oaks (which I read they eat the leaves of). Wouldnt let my daughter catch one 'cause I didnt know what the heck it was or if it bit/stung... the bottom of his body kinda comes to a point like a bee.... really neat in the world of moths I guess.. Safe to handle?

I found one on my deck, then gone but she had flown up on a vine and attached herself to a leaf, then I saw another one on the eave of the porch, then next day they were hooked up and remained so for 24 hrs, then the male left and the femail remained on the leaf for another 24 hrs, she has now gone and there are little eggs left on the leave. So exciting I am going to continue to watch the eggs to see what happens.

I live in Clackamas Oregon

Hi found one August 2/12 Vancouver Island I thought it was a cecropia but it looks just like this one with the blue eye spots. It was old, faded, frayed and sadly, dead, but must have died just recently
as it was stll soft. It was on my sundeck! Such a beautiful creature. The last one I saw was in Saskatchewan when I was a child.
