Heritage Week

Franciscan Bell Tower better known as Seatown Castle
It's Heritage Week here in Ireland and there are lots of events taking place with the aim of getting people to better appreciate our heritage.
It's easy to take our heritage for granted when we see it every day.
It wasn't until I began posting photos here and reading comments from Pbasers
in America and Australia that I realised just how cool it is to drive past the tower from a 13th century monastery on my way to and from work every day.

Beautiful tower and image! V
Yes, we American's are always amazed by the historic buildings in Europe! But I also think that everyone takes their hometowns for granted and don't appreciate them the way "foreigners" do! We met a couple from Texas last night who were vacationing in Philadelphia for a few days to see some of the historic sites, museums and experience the finest restaurants. Their impression of Philly was extremely positive and made my hubby and I very proud and happy to live near such a neat city! :)

a good reminder of Ireland's long history..they built things to last back then..

Amazing difference between Europe and USA - in Europe they treasure all the old buildings - in the USA we seem to tear down anything older than 25 years and build a new one :-(

Where I live we've got nothing like this from the 13th century so this is an amazing sight!

The best we can do here is about 100 years old I think!

Nothing that old here. We had mud-covered cannibal Indians instead.
I enjoy seeing Ireland through your eyes, as well as the other Pbasers who give me insight into cultures and history from all over the world.

Yes, this is antiquity not just historic. And it is beautiful with the intricate stonework that has held all these years. V.

Amazingly old, and what a structure to have in town. I like the sound of heritage week.

A very nice composition, and a very apt statement. We don't have these kinds of things where I come from, and here in Budapest it never ceases to amaze me what history surrounds me. V.
