Kelly's Monument stands in the centre of Dundalk,
commemorating the sacrifice of a brave lifeboat crew
who lost their lives in a fierce storm.
The inscription on one of the sides reads:
"In memory of Captain James Joseph Kelly, Gerald Hughes, James Corssy and
James Murphy who lost their lives in a noble and humane effort to rescue
the crew of the barque Mary Stoddard wrecked in Dundalk Bay on
the 9th of April 1858.'
