Empty

Even though the cottages in Ballymascanlon Village have been empty for many years,
spring flowers continue to bloom outside the houses which are slowly falling into
dereliction.
Had to work today providing Bank Holiday cover so I just had time to stop
for a quick pic as I drove past the village on my way home. I still have lots
of photos from yesterday's walk in the woods at Bellurgan Park to upload.

Sigh, tell me about it; I have 16 gigs worth from the long weekend to sort through and I'm 2 PADs behind in posting. This shot makes for an interesting contrast; the flowers themselves seem to have been tended to some extent rather than just growing in a completely feral fashion; otherwise I'd imagine that the entire bed would be covered. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the cottages. Alas people can only live where there are jobs and services which I imagine there were once here, but no longer.

It's a shame that they are abandoned... it looks like such a beautiful spot!

Very sad to see these neglected places. At least the flowers and your image brings this cottage back to life!V!

Nature will reclaim any spot we don't constantly defend! A beautiful image even though of a sad subject.

Sad to see. Only the plants are thriving.

Sorry about these old homes. I just love the architectural details on the windows and doors!! V

Lovely photo of an old, empty cottage. I love those Irish names like Ballymascanlon. My wife bought the whole TV series Ballykissangel on DVD.

A good cottage garden needs little attention.

I'd say this old house could tell a few stories, a beautiful shot Mairead.
