'Through storm and fire and gloom,
I see it stand,
Firm, broad, and tall,
The Celtic Cross that marks our Father-land '
lines from a poem by Thomas D'Arcy McGee who
was born in Carlingford, Co Louth in 1825, not far from where this
photo was taken, and emigrated to Canada
where he was elected a member of Parliament
and later assassinated.
