I usually carry one, and use it for low light stuff, but normally I use my monopod when I'm hiking and use it as a combo hiking stick and camera support

I think have one just to say "I have one". I don't use it, unfortunately.

Tripods also make good weights in your canoe! They are a bit too big to stir your cocktail, though!
