In 1977 the canyon was lush and not burned as it is these days. There was a large group of commune folks that lived nearby and just hung out naked at the hot springs most of there day. Some say these were the last people of " The Manson Family" who also were reported to hang out here in the late 60's /early 70's. These " Hippies" were on the fringe of that group. I swam with my hiking shorts on for a bit till I felt stupid as being the only person clothed at the time. After 20 minutes I joined them in " El Natural" swimming but was the only person there with tan lines..... Interesting times were the 70's....
