Ardbeg Point, with its view over Kames Bay to the Cowal Hills, the Kyles and Loch Striven, was my childhood playground. During the summer we played football there all day - until the midges emerged, that is. I remember going down there with a radio and a football to listen to Scotland beat Holland 3-2 at the Argentina world cup. I tried to emulate Archie Gemmell's goal. The game was on the TV, but I couldn't bear to watch it.
