Sunrise in the Foothills

of the Great Smoky Mountains.

This morning I went with my photography club Southern Appalachian Nature Photographers (www.sanp.net) to the first overlook on the Foothills Parkway to shoot the sunrise.

I took a ton of shots and some of the others can be seen here. http://www.pbase.com/lundy/foothills_parkway

Technical note: This was a one shot capture with a 2 and 3 stop Graduated Neutral Density filters both mounted on the front. Not a post production composite. I really could have used 6 or 7 stops of neutral density on the sky but you work with what you got.

This one reaches poster size print status. This is a sick shot and Im jealous that I didnt take it. Time for some ND filters for my kit I guess too .

This is breathtaking. The neutral denstiy filters are so useful on digicams. And, you use them well.

And ofcourse I post the best picture I have taken all month and Pbase craps out right after it shows up in the meta gallery. Sorry my bad, this always happens when I post something that I am personally proud of.
