SP: Playing in Traffic

For today's SP I decided to do a night shot. This image was taken on a bridge that crosses over Interstate 40.

Thanks for your comments John. Yes the focus was a little soft on the eyes. The Canon G5 point and shot has a little square box than can be moved around the LCD screen to set a point within the frame that will be the autofocus point as well as the exposure metering point. One problem with that "focus box" is that it does not move from corner to corner. It can only be moved around about 60-70 percent of the frame. So depending on who you want to blame it was either my fault that I had moved too far over and out of the furthest reaches of the position of the focus box or we can just blame Canon for not allowing it to have corner to corner focusing option.

The G5 does come with a IR remote and I use it alot for long exposures to prevent camera shake. But I would have to say it is probably not worth it to buy one if you can make due with the 2 or 10 second timers most of Canon's other cameras have. That give you plenty of time to run into the frame or let the tripod settle down after pressing the shutter release for long exposures.

Nice image! The focus is a little off, … I think I might have used USM in Photoshop to “crisp up” the eyes a tad. I hate trying to do SP’s! It’s hard to get them focused properly. I guess I’m going to have to invest in an infrared shutter release one of these days. Good "rule of thirds" in this image though, and I love the contrast in the night with the lights behind you.

Yes it was VERY cold in the 30's, which is not really cold but up untill that night we had be thru a very warm spell so I was not aclimated and I forgot gloves so I had to walk a ways holding my freezing tripod with bare hands.

Must have been cold. Your ears look red hot. The backdrop looks like stars and lasers. Great job keeping still for the capture. Mine would have been a blurry mess.
