I lived in the Warden Bay Hotel for a couple of years in the early 90’s when I was very young (before the age of 5). My mum then Sharon McDonald and dad Steve McDonald were running it (didn’t own it though). We lived in the flat above. I have lots of memories here including a bit of a spooky one that I’ve always wanted to dig on a bit more. Did anyone ever know of a Sid who either owned or managed the pub?

My dad passed away in 2020, mum still around. Does anyone remember them? Would love to hear from people who did! Especially about my dad. I went in to the pub a couple of years ago for the first time in years (now The Cavern) and it was so completely changed from how I remember it. This old photo above looks more like my memories than it does now!

I also stayed at Warden Manor in the 1960's aged 11 or so. Lovely memories of Toc H holidays, everyone dressing up for the pageant, concerts in the lounge, the Ark, RAF room, putting on the green, table tennis, tennis courts, bowls outside the French windows where a trolley with an urn of hot tea, bread and butter and jam appeared every afternoon at 4.So glad someone has bought the property and are restoring it! Would love to see it again. Perhaps some pictures can appear here or on another website? Thank you so much for these pictures!

hello, We are the current owners of Warden Manor. We are trying to restore it bit by bit. unfortunately we don,t get a lot of time at the moment, but, hope to get going soon. The manor is not for sale.Yes ghosts do live there also but, nothing to fear from them.I guess you can call it our swan song , it,s a challenge ,but, an enjoyable one.we are new to technology like this , hope I can get back on this page again.

I've had a ghost walk through my wall he's dressed in dark trousers and white shirt I live in 77 seaveiw gardens,around 12 at night not all the time but you can smell baking as if someone is baking a cake its a lovely smell.I wonderd if the manor house was anywhere near me at one point.the man was dressed simlar to one of your pictures it didn't scare me,one min he was there the next he was gone.Eve.x

We holidayed at warden manor in the early sixties when I was maybe 5 or 6 my parents had met through TOC H and had holidayed there with my Grandparents in the fifties. I have a number of photos of both eras of particular interest are the pageants of wars and coronations that the holidaymakers put on during their stay.
My own memories are a picture of a witch and a bit of poetry on the wall where Vic had crashed his car into the wall, also his o gauge railway that he ran to a timetable with the aid of his wife crammed into a rather small signal box. He issued us with a ticket to which was duly punched in a machine to enter the railway shed.

Thanks for these photos and for the memories. My grandparents owned the Warden Bay Hotel in 40s and early 50's (I think) and I believe it no longer exists. They were called Jack and Ruth Mason. My aunt who now lives in Canada told me that there was also a bungalow close to the hotel. They had about 14 horses for people to ride and this was a place to escape to during the war. I would love to hear from anyone who has any more memories about the place. Thanks again. Jan Higgins.

When I was a child in the fifties we had a lot of holidays at Warden. We rented a cottage called Lesdon which was up the road from the pub. I remember going to the pub most evenings and playing in the pub gardens where there was one swing and a goat. I also recall waling round the old army barracks where there were flocks of wild budgerigars

Warden Manor is still there and is currently for sale (it can be found on Rightmove/Eastchurch). I was taken there as a child, and the manor was subsequently owned by Freddie Lardeaux who once owned an army surplus shop in Sheerness, and who passed away in December 2011.

My father was a member of Toc H and I remember coming here to what must have been Warden Manor? I wonder if it's still there. Think the last time was 1964 and remember the resident owner had an incredible train set kept in the garden.

WARDEN BAY GHOST.
I live on Jetty Road. Although my house is only 25 years old, it was built on the site of an older one, which may have been a cafe. During the last few years I have often slept downstairs because of trouble with my legs etc..
I hear the ghost regularly but have not seen it. The ghost walks up my drive in very loud high heels or cuban heels. There is then a sound as if an empty bottle is thrown into a bottle bin. That's it.
This has happened occasionally over the years. Last night, Sunday a.m. 22nd July, the ghost came at 12.30 am and again at 2.30 am. This is the first time the ghost has come twice in one night.
The most significant thing about it is that the footsteps are so loud, clear and positive that it took me a year of running to the door, before I realised it was a ghost. I thought that with a ghost you would say to yourself 'did I hear it or did I imagine it.' There is no question of imagining this one, it is clear as a bell.
Can anyone tell me anything about the old Cafe on Jetty Road, Warden Bay?

My grandparents Molly and Bob Farr lived in one of the cottages opposite the Wheatsheaf, my sister and I spent holidays with them in the early fifties. We used to catch the bus to the Toc H and then go and look at what had fallen into the sea since our last visit.We helped with the harvest making stooks with the sheaves, no combine harvesters then,it was reapers and binders.I remember Felix Colegate having a few cows that I used to help him milk, by hand of course.I seem to recall playing with the children that lived in Pear Tree Cottage next door to the Wheatsheaf I think their name was Pearce. We came on the coach from Victoria to Sheerness and caught a bus to Eastchurch and sometimes had to walk the rest of the way Warden, They we great days spent out in the fields or down on the cliffs only going home when we were hungry.

Does anyone remember Rose Cottage at Warden Point in the 1920's. Have tried searching the archives but have not found anything. My grandfather, William Alfred Curtis, lived in this cottage supposedly when my mother was born in 1922 and she does remember something about the Isle of Sheppey. Think they spent holidays there as well. Many thanks William Wood

Hi my name is Barrie Wade and lived on the Warden road for 35 years now living in Sutterton Lincolnshire Bridgehous I remember this was the post office and the Bungalow and houses towards the cliffs and the pill box on the clif top have all gone into the sea
One off the houses was Mr Scanlion the union man and when cominging home from the wheasheaf and opened the front door the floor had gone down the cliff at the cliff edge of warden springs was a concrete wall with a dish shape in it also, what we called the Toc h is a poem which was here were several warden hags casting spells in paper bags curses on you wreches all how made pur viv drive throug the wall I think this may have refured to Mr V Martin whou with his wife ran the Toc h all so known as whiches corner

What a great sight. Got a van on Warden Springs, & I cannot believe how much the area has changed. Could you tell me roughly what year these photo were taken? I been coming to the island since the early sixtys & most of these photos pre date me. Keep up the good work.
