This primary relay station (on the right), out in the middle of nowhere, is
responsible for directing image signals to the proper I.P. addresses (the
computers of customers). It works in conjunction with the GPS resolver,
located in the same area but not pictured here.
A failure here will cause confusion throughout the network, sending images
to the wrong places. This concerns network administrators and a few
easily-excited congressmen because so-called "parental controls"
(filters) can be by-passed.
It is understandable that caring parents want to shield their impressionable
children from the ugly realities of adult life. The worst-case example of
this horror is not what you would expect. Adult erotica and pornography
are rampant on the Internet, and society as a whole doesn't want children
to see such material, but an even greater threat to impressionable minds is
the demented humor of some PBase subscribers. Management is serious about
keeping this facility in top condition.
By the way, the tower and dark building at left belong to another photo
hosting company that is trying to horn in on PBase's territory.
