Tree climber

St. Edward State Park in Kirkland, Washington view map

My inner child prompted me to climb this tree in St. Edward State Park. It was fun. Kris Frederick took this picture with black and white film and created a digital file from the negative. I cropped the image on my computer to eliminate the naked women lying on the ground below me. :-)

Production details: Tri-X film; Pentax Super Program on manual exposure; 50mm Pentax-A lens; 1/125 second at F8.
Negative scanned with a Nikon CoolScan.

Are you sure you're up to it, Dave?

Actually, Dave, this photo really scares me. I cannot feel the nostalgia that others have expressed for trees in their childhood. My single experience with a tree in childhood (1957, Normal, IL, to be exact) resulted in a trip to the emergency room to have a broken arm repaired. Jeez, it just hit me. And all this time I was shutting it out of my memory. I spent the first 8 years of my life in Normal, IL!! Normal, get it? Oh wow, I gotta think about this a little more. Must be something there, just needs more thought. Later.....

For the adult picture...it is going to have to wait a little... but i will think of you when i do it ;-). And i do know that time waits for no one...

Bonjour Dave, I find this picture very interesting, in all aspects. In my profile, I write the following: "...Le coeur de mon pommier m'a vu un peu grandir..." It means: The heart of my apple tree saw me growing up a little". I spent hours and hours sitting on my favourite branch in my apple tree when i was young. I have countless memories of that era, i always, somehow find myself back at times reliving those wonderful magical moments i lived in the past. And now, seeing you in this tree, as an adult, a) I envy you b) soon i will do this again c) it is just wonderful... Rocks and trees hum... Ciao for now ~ Claudia p.s. I almost used one pic of myself in that tree for my PBase profile, i came 'this close' to do it ;-). I have a big smile on my face and i think this is just fun.

If you like it for the image, I'll tell Kris.
If you like it for the description, thanks---but be careful about believing what you read on my site: truth has its ups and downs.

Dave, I have been a Pbaser for a good many years now, too many to count, and this is still my favorite self portrait!

When the advantage of height (the view) outweighs the disadvantage (fear of falling), I am willing to endure the pain for the gain. In this case the view was so good that I completely forgot about my fear of heights (but suffered from the fear mentioned in an earlier comment). Do not believe anything said by a person who says "Trust me." Trust me.

I thought you were afraid of heights.

Eldar, it was not my intention to disappoint you: part of my PBase mission is to “amuse all Russian dudes living in Toronto who create colorful images of Utah.” I did not climb the tree to get away from the women; I did it to improve my view of the landscape. In this picture I have enjoyed the scenery but am trying to determine how the child in me can descend the tree without letting the adult in me come up.

First of all, the picture is not complete without naked women, I am actually very dissapointed... Second of all, if she was naked how come you're fully dressed ?! Please, don't tell us that you were trying to climb away from her, it just does not fit your personal profile, ahahahahaaaaa

Shirley M. and I are unrelated (at least in this life). As for former lives, who knows? There was no raccoon, but I seem to recall two friendly beavers.

My personal favorite portrait.
Are you related to Shirley Maclaine? Were you ever related to her?
Actually you look as though an angry raccon has treed you.

dave, have you ever painted yourself into a corner--so to speak--no getting away now. glad to make your aquaintance from the ground. (glad you keep the naked lady lying around--enjoyed meeting her as well.) appreciate your stopping by my galleries and leaving the encouraging comment. cheers, p/s
