Looking south just as I left the summit. Ten minutes earlier the summit was sunny and calm. Now the wind was
pushing against me. It continued to get stronger, forcing me to look down at the ground as I descended.
To get an idea of its velocity, I pinched the high end of my hiking stick between my thumb and finger: the
wind lifted the low end of the stick to about 30 degrees below horizontal! It felt spooky being out there
all alone with a huge cloud of salt dust moving toward me.
