The photo above, taken in 2006, shows me reclining on sandstone in Arches National Park. But I was doing more than reclining---I was getting psychic relief from topographic relief. In other words, I was getting a sandstone fix. You see, I suffer from Sandstone Deprivation Syndrome (SDS).
SDS is an insidious condition that affects persons who get too close too often to Moabian sandstone. This posture calmed the sandstone shakes and returned me to a state in which I could fake normal behavior.
Although I strive to be honest and not mislead the viewer, I might have exaggerated in the previous paragraphs. I might even have lied.
SDS makes me do it.
Recording this scene above would not have been possible without the motionless co-operation of Joe Tripod, my photographic sidekick. He is unaffected by sandstone, sand paper, sand dunes, and sand boxes.
