Endangered elm

Ladd’s Addition (Portland, Oregon) view map

I spotted this sign during a trike ride through
Ladd's Addition (a neighborhood in Portland, Oregon).

It made me sad to know that these beautiful trees were in danger. When I
was a kid (late 1950s), Dutch elm disease killed all the stately elms in our
neighborhood in Rochester, New York. It was not a pretty sight to see the
neighborhood become more and more naked as trees were cut down.
Streets that had been graced with a cathedral-like canopy of tree branches
became empty and dull. I hate to think that Ladd's Addition---a beeautiful
neighborhood---is suffering the same fate.

We too suffered bad from Dutch Elm disease in the last century Dave.
Really sad to see so many trees go.
