Black Butte (east of Weed, California) view map


These units, pulling a northbound manifest freight train, just arrived from Dunsmuir and sit motionless prior to some switching. Late afternoon shot.

I am typing better now! New keyboard. Great shot, the headlights are for looks. Trains here in Florida are as boring as the landscape. (My excuse for not going after them).

It's good to see you're still in training, Dave. I think Carl's missing the obvious: the headlights are on because engineer knows he's about to go into shadow.

Great shot! The headlights are so they can be seen coming, sae reason cars hade daylight driving lights!

are the headlights really necessary? i mean, if they do see something, it's not like they can stop on a dime. or a mile of dimes...
