When driving north from Interstate 80 toward Lakeside, one must pass by an Air Force installation known as the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR), an extension of Hill Air Force Base in Ogden. The road lies in a narrow civilian corridor running between two portion of the UTTR. Barbed-wire fences run the entire length of the UTTR on both sides of the road.
At the southern boundary of the UTTR, motorists are greeted by these cheerful, instructive signs. This facility used to be called the "U. S. A. F. Bombing and Gunnery Range." When the Air Force is engaged in the destruction of munitions, the road is temporarily blockaded .
