At almost 7 inches total length, this is the largest Philippine sunbird, and it's one tough endemic customer to find. It took me over 2 years to get a glimpse of it, and even then it presented itself only for a few seconds.

My hasty capture resulted into some subject motion and camera shake blur, but I like the bird's pose, the catch light and the not so cluttered background. All these were enhanced further by the pink "makopa" blooms. There are not a lot of pics available of this specie taken in its natural habitat. Imperfect as the technicals are, this photo gains entry into my Top endemics list because of rarity.

Haay Ka Romy,
What are you waiting for? You have more than enough for a great Philippine Bird Book. You have to start with a Volume One. Get Leni Sutcliffe as book editor.
She is a good one and she loves bird watching and is a dedicated conservationist.. Your biggest accomplishment will be to show the reason why we have to protect what remains of the Philippine wild life habitat. I have heard the foreign birders in Bislig say "Come now before it is gone." In the bird photographer's case, to capture them in pictures before they are gone is likewise a desperate "bird call". There is a greater vison beyond what you see in the tiny hole of your Sigma. Your photos will be the loud "bird calls" that will silently deliver the song that will haunt everyone to take action. This photo has renewed my commitment to help save the habitats.
