Right, Steve. I missed that one. When I saw the bird's behavior and general appearance matched that of the Pygmy Babbler, I immediately assumed the ID. A revision is indeed in order.

Hi Romy,
I can see where you can get confused on this one. This is Macronous striaticeps mindanensis (Brown Tit-Babbler). An endemic. It can be differentiated from S. plateni by the white throat (dark in the Stachyris), by the rufous extending from the breast down into the vent area (lighter from lower breast down to the vent in the Stachyris) and by the presence of dark webbing on the external vanes of the primary flight feathers.

According to the Kennedy Guide, this should be the plateni race. Curiously, the throat of this bird appears to differ from that which is illustrated in the KG. Comments on this are welcome.
