A pair of these nested and hatched three chicks in a bush in my backyard in Severna Park. They’re getting ready to venture out of the nest in the next few days!

We were at Great Falls State Park this afternoon and saw a pair. Coming fromthe UK, this was an eye opener. Absolutely stunning!

There are two at my feeders in Randallstown. I have two Brome feeders, one contains a Fruit and Nut Blend and the other contains a Select Blend Wild Bird Food.

East side of Baltimore, MD. I have a couple that come to my feeder almost daily. They also feed on the sunflower plants that I grew.

Thanks for posting this pic. There is a beautiful red northern cardinal who likes to chill around my way. As one of the above posters mentioned, however, they are very shy.

Thanks for posting this directory of Maryland birds Charlie. I heard then saw this bird in my backyard the other day in the Bowie area. Really stood out from the bark and branches of the leafless trees. It's coloration seemed more intense and the black mark on it's chest stood out in the brilliant red. A beautiful bird. Was not familiar with the Northern Cardinal, just remembered the ones with the larger crown from other parts of the country.

Dear Sir, I visited your website for the first time this evening. It is my first time in the US and I am over here to attend a conference on satellite tracking. I went for a walk this evening and heard a beautiful bird call, there on the top of a maple singing his heart out was a Cardinal, wow, what a bird, stunning, I wish we had some in thr UK. many thanks. Stephen

There is a pair of cardinals that come to my backyard. Doesn't like the hanging feeder on the deck. So I spread some safflower seeds on the deck railing... and now I've lured them to the deck railing. Absolutely beautiful birds.

Got the grackles (a group will empty a big feeder in one feeding) and squirrels to stop coming to my feeder by switching from sunflower (or sunflower seed mix) to safflower seed. Northern cardinals, house finches and white-breasted nuthatches love the safflower seed. Since the feeder became a safflower seed only feeder, I needed a nyjer seed feeder to keep the goldfinches coming.

Hi there! Love the site, enabling I.D. of thesse beauties. they are so shy though. The black oily sunflower seeds are there tastiest treat it seems. Tell us how to rid the feeding stations of "too many" squirrels.

We have these all in our back yard. They are great song birds early in the morning and late at night. They are so beautiful all year long. My favorite bird but only because they were the first birds I ever noticed as a child. Now my children are enjoying the love of bird watching and crating a habitat for them.

I also as of today had the pleasure of having one in my backyard while it is snowing as of today 1 Mar 09. This bird is gorgeous and I am curious if he or she can handle the snow because it seems to be using one of the bushes as it shelter. My emotions for animals of this type and care about their well-being would like to know how long and if again, this bird can withstand the inclement weather we are experiencing today or should I go buy a bird cage and food until the conditions ease up a bit?

Mr. Lentz: I just saw a Northern Cardinal perched on the tree outside my bedroom window. What an absolutely stunning bird! I am looking at your website now and I am amazed at all of the lovely birds in Maryland. Kudos to you for your blessed hobby!
