Ring-necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus)

Southwest Area Park, Baltimore Highlands, MD

This is the first male Ring-necked Pheasant that I have photographed in Maryland. Unfortunately, the shadows got in the way and I only got one shot before he took off.

Watched 2 males slink through my backyard yesterday, so I wanted to find out more about them. Haven't seen one in the wild here in MD for about 20 yrs, and that was on the shoulder of I-83's ramp to I-695. The ones I saw yesterday were too fast and too aware of my presence for me to get close enough with my very limited, digital camera. My Jack Russell actually saw them first (through the window, so he didn't scare them). The way they were moving fast and low to the ground, I thought it was a pair of groundhogs until they came closer to the house. lol Thanks for sharing your pics!
