Look at me, see how I blush, come and get my nectar and while you’re about it take some pollen and rub it on my neighbour!
The Christmas roses are flowering beautifully in the garden at the moment (along with their stinking cousins) so I took my camera out and grabbed a shot of the sun shining on the petals.
It was only when I got back inside and saw the image full-size that I noticed the profusion of pollen on the stamen and petals. I hope there are some honey bees awake and taking advantage of this lovely weather today.
Did you know that an average person relies on honey bees to such an extent that one mouthful in every three comes from the pollination they carry out? I reckon that for us veggies, the proportion is probably more like one in two! At this time of year, the bees will be starting to peek out of the hives and see what they can find on a nice day like today.
Buzz buzz buzz, busy busy busy…….
Last year, a shot of something that can grow without the honey bee but let me ask you this.....what came first, the chicken or the egg? The garlic clove or the seed?
