This shot is not really remarkable in itself, it’s the content of the photo that makes it so.
It’s a squash plant, grown from (Marshalls) seed by me. In fact, it’s a dumpling if you’re interested. None of that is what makes it interesting either. I’ve not yet put it out into the veggie garden and it’s still in a pot in the greenhouse along with 3-4 other ‘dumplings’ and half a dozen ‘butternut sprinters’.
The thing that’s so cool is the water – the little droplets on the plant and indeed the fact that the plant is alive after a week and a half with no human contact whatsoever, while we’ve been away and subsequently feeling poorly.
They’re the triumph of DM who rigged up a self-watering system, using stuff that my folks bought me for a pressie a few years ago. It’s one of those self-watering kits and he has supplemented it with another kit (Christmas pressie) and a battery-operated timer (the one with the kit my folks bought was a wind-up one, that you could start of and control how long it worked for but it needed manual intervention to start it. This one starts and stops itself.
He spent hours setting it up and making sure all the plants got watered properly and they duly do. In fact, they’re looking so good that there are flowers on chillis and on tomatoes too. We’ve even had basil from the greenhouse in our supper tonight.
I am so chuffed that I’m even beginning to feel a tad better……..
Last year, I shot an owl (in the photographic sense anyway) in flight - cool bananas!
