You're Quackers, Episode 4

The one where Hot Rod waits in the dark for his love…..

Hot Rod waits in the dark, peering out of the window into the inky black night. The stars twinkle and shine over his head but he’s sitting alone.

His ducky has gone. She was awoken this morning with a rude awakening at 4.30am, when the heavens opened, thunder clapped and lightening lit the dawn sky. Hot Rod has been terrified all day that his fowl has been out in the foul, stormy weather, gone to the terrors of the big city alone and without the aid of a safety net.

She’s had to emigrate to London for the day and then migrate back home and she’s not yet returned to their cosy little love nest high on the moors. Will she find her way home?

He’s waddling up and down watching and waiting, all the while hoping for her safe return from her flight to the big, scary city.

When he fell for her ample charms, he never realised what it’d be like to sit and wait, how tormented he’d be or how difficult it’d be to let her go and do her thing in the city.

His feathers are ruffled and she’s still not home.

What he doesn't realise is that she's flapping her way back to him as quickly as her little wings will carry her - he is, after all, the wind beneath her wings. When he's around, she stops being silly little slapper duck and becomes a different kind of bird all together.

But wait, what’s that? There in the distance? Swooping along the road? Yes, yes, it’s Slapper Duck, returning safe and well, although very late. ‘Come back to me’ his voice calls out to her……. ‘I’m home, back to my handsome drake’ she coos.

They switch off the light, snuggle up together and preen……

Well, what did you expect after a 17 hour working day? Great art? Well, perhaps you should just pop off and see superwoman’s pbase then!

Tonight, the inspiration for this episode of ‘You’re Quackers’ comes from Nicky who wanted a return of the rubber ducks and somehow, from the mire that is my tired mind came this…..is it autobiographical? Yep, you betcha!
