21st September 2006 - out on the wiley windy moor....

We’ve risked Hurricane Gordon today to go walking on the moor – I reckon we’ve covered 5-6 miles in blustery sunshine and high winds. I needed to blow away some cobwebs and some work worries so this seemed like the best way to achieve that. Eventually, the winds got so high we decided enough was enough and we turned for home.

Before we turned, we stood on what felt like the top of the world, in howling winds and for some reason I thought this self-timed, self-portrait was a good plan. I have taken some better shots today but I liked the look on DMs face, and the composition, despite it not showing 'my best side'. He commented that my hair looked like it had an ‘armed robber stocking’ over it – so did his!

He was laughing at me getting this shot, which is a ‘one-hit wonder’ because I couldn’t bring myself to get back on top of that rock so the first take got it. He was watching the camera wobbling about on the rock it was propped on and telling me that it had moved three times since I framed up the shot! It didn’t matter too much in the end because it moved to a good spot!

I love the wildness of the moor and that’s just as well because according to the weather forecast it’s going to be very wild indeed while Gordon does his worst.

Now the clouds have rolled in and the rain has started – the hens are in, the dogs have been fed and the hatches are battened down here. It’s looking a bit scary on the tors behind our home. I hope we don’t get any damage.

Two 'happy birthdays' are in order today - Jeanne and our little friend Greg, who is a year old today.....just as well it's only a year or he'd be cross he's not got a card off us!!! he's changing by the minute but this is him last time he appeared on my PAD.

Another wish for no damage your way. Hold tight. I would have enjoyed the walk. There is something about a coming storm and the wind that I like.--Rene

This made me smile.. I can feel the wind. How can anyone feel bad when the world is in their face like that? Perfectly placed david.

Love the shot, hope you find everything still there in the morning. I just got in from work and the car told me it was 21 degrees out there still, very perculiar.

Hurricane "Gordon". Now that's a thought for the future:)
I really do like this comp, Linda. Let those woes just fly away!

Hope you survive the night intact, it hasn't got here yet - no breeze and a balmy 20+ degrees out there... Great pic btw :o)
