We’re on our ‘ols and loving being here without having to get here if you see what I mean. DM and I have always holidayed in Cornwall since we’ve been together and both of us holidayed in the West Country for many years before we became an ‘item’. Now we don’t have to go away to be in our favourite place. We’ve got all our comforts of home and in fact, we are home! I am still slightly punch-drunk at the thought that we made it here and this IS REALLY now our home…..I keep expecting to wake up and discover this last year has all been a dream of the most exquisitely tantalising variety – you know, all the toil to reap the rewards, then, just as you’re getting to like the rewards, the alarm goes off!!!
Anyway, we’re off work. We had a quiet day yesterday, partly brought about by tiredness after such a busy weekend and partly brought about by DM feeling very dodgy with a face full of snot, coughs and sneezes. Hayfever or a cold? Could be either but either way he was feeling very dicky.
Today dawned and the weather is glorious (hurrah) so we set off for a trip to the sea. We’ve been down to Fowey (pronounced Foy for some bizarre reason best known to it), via the Bodinnick ferry. We had our lunch in a pub on the waterfront and took another little ferry across the water to Polruan, a small fishing port that we’d never been to before.
All-in-all the trip was pretty fabby and it was hard to choose a pic for today’s PAD. This shot of some sea urchins just shaded it because it’s so colourful. They were for sale on the harbour-side with an honesty box to put your money in. How I love that. I did a quick Google search to see how widespread sea urchins are so I could see if folks would recognise them and find they’re a global thing, the roe is a delicacy to eat in Korea and Chile, the whole thing is a pest in California, where once sea otters kept the population down by eating them, the decline in sea otters has meant these critters freely eat everything in sight and have damaged the eco-system apparently. They are regarded as aphrodisiac because they contain a cannabinoid (which obviously makes people feel wonderful) and their teeth are known as Aristotle’s Lanterns! So, I learned something today and I had a great day out to boot.
Last year, I was back on the treadmill after a few days away.
