As is our custom in the summer, we ate outside last night. I have a real thing about getting fresh air – I can’t get any during the day most of the time so to spend my evenings out of doors is the only chance I get. Even if it’s quite cold, we’ll sit out in jumpers.
While we are outside, we often put a CD on the CD player in the dining room and let its sound drift out to us on the patio. For some strange reason, I picked out of our CD collection ‘Hipsway’, the self-titled debut album of a band that is a huge favourite of mine. It comes back to my usual fixations of deep, velvety, chocolaty voice and sumptuous pop music. I saw them play many times and have some very good photos of them that I took when they played at ULU in London maybe in late 1985 or early 1986.
Anyway, the song ‘The Honey Thief’ is on the album and it’s a wonderful song. I got this idea while listening to it and so here it is – it’s nice to get your idea the day before you need it!!!!! Makes a change in my world anyway. I’m sure I’m not alone sometimes in wandering around the house at 10pm thinking to myself ‘what the hell can I photograph today?’
So, the idea came to me yesterday and the execution comes today because I feel a bit like a honey thief today – my work problem came good (I think anyway, I’ll know absolutely definitely by the end of the week but it certainly looks resolved as I sit here tonight). I don’t want to tempt fate on it but there are definitely good signals coming from the right quarters.
Tonight then, I will sleep like a baby, after another listen to that gorgeous voice and fabulous album………
Two years ago, we were overheated and last year my photo was as crappy as my day had obviously been!
