6th February 2005 - hurry hurry hurry

We’ve been dashing around all day today – starting with a trip to Guildford, a town about fifteen miles or so from home. It was a choice of going to the spectacularly ugly and depressing Camberley (the nearest town to us) or going a bit further afield to somewhere that would have some photo opportunities. We chose the latter. Partly because I just hate Camberley with a passion and partly because Guildford is diametrically opposed in terms of style so it is OK by me!!!

This statue is normally surrounded by shoppers, students (it’s a university city) and tourists – in fact, only an hour after this shot was taken, it was just that – we just happened to get up early and get to town before the shops opened.

It reminds me of Lucky Jim, the sublime Kingsley Amis book, kind of chaotic and haphazard but charming and funny.

I was pleased to get to capture it with Guildford’s famous cobbled street and beautiful 17th century clock in the background.

Later I spent several hours in the garden, digging my veggie plot. I dug the last of last season’s potatoes and they are now roasting in the oven with jerk seasoning on them – yum!

We also took a trip to see DMs Dad who has just come out of hospital – Maurice I hope you are back on that golf course as quick as a flash!

This weekend has gone by in a complete whirl of activity and ‘stuff’ – I’m exhausted! Tomorrow begins another day on the grindstone and I feel far from refreshed or ready to do battle again. In fact, I feel ready for nothing. It’s because we so rarely spend any time here at weekends any more I suppose.

Last year I was at Foxhills, planning a conference.

You got this just right Linda. Many a time, I've lurked on this very spot by the burger trailer with my camera. Hmmm, don't think I've done a Camberley PaD yet!

What a great statue, and an interesting looking street behind it!

I like the opposition of the lines and the curved figure.

Nice shot - without the cars it could be years old!
Used to work in Camberley - can't disagree!

Excellent statue. The mono treatment is perfect.

I really like the composition - lots of interest. I like the small figures and the characteristic clock at the end neatly fitted in.
