water

Now you know me, I love water.....except when I'm in the car. I was shocked to pull out of our office's underground car park today to find it was raining. Was that forecast? I don't remember seeing it. Why is it that a bit of rain turns motorists into morons? Why do traffic jams occur when it rains? Who knows - I'm sure I don't. Tonight's journey home was grim - pouring rain turning everyone into either homicidal maniacs or snails so I got stuck in my car for 1 1/2 hours driving the 30 miles from my office in Epsom to my home in Sandhurst.

By the time I got home the light was very poor but I really wanted my pic of the day to mark the fact that this is the first rain our parched earth has seen for weeks. Our lawn has been totally brown for what feels like months.

I had to push my camera to its limits. Failing light meant slow shutter speeds and wind meant that beautifully framed shot was all of a sudden an inch to the left (or right) of my camera. Shucks. I had the ISO on its max setting but what to do? Aperture wide open to give the best light and faster speed so hopefully a shot that didn't have 'subject shake' or narrow aperture and bigger depth of field giving more chance of a focused shot. All of this not helped by Archie because he was running around making all my subjects shake like jelly!

Anyway, after a very frustrating half an hour or so I got this shot which I'm pretty pleased with given the difficulty of the conditions.
