To me there is no scent more evocative of summer than the heady basil. I haven't been able to grow any for a number of years since the old greenhouse fell down (only really needed for germination, once a few inches tall they live happily outside).

This year, I've got four window box tubs full of it and I just love watering it and the tomatoes together - what a brilliant soup of scents.
