These rings were my engagement and wedding rings from my marriage to Andrew. Today they will be sold and David and I will have lunch on the proceeds. How times change. I suppose I should feel some sort of sadness or remorse but all I feel is angry at all that wasted time and energy and humiliated that I pressed on because a 'marriage is for life' despite its obvious wrongness. I feel sad that so many other people are in that situation. How I wish I'd accepted David's invitation up to his flat for coffee all those years ago in the early months of my already failing marriage. It was too late to prevent me from making that terrible mistake but at least it would have speeded up the dissolution of my marriage.
