I've been at a meeting in the centre of the legendary Brooklands motor racing circuit today. It was the first purpose-built race track in the UK - the only one to be built since it was Rockingham, only a couple of years ago. Although much of the site is no longer there, some quirky bits remain, including this pits building in The Heights. It's still a thrill to see the remnants of the track. It was once famous for endurance racing similar to Le Mans with all-night races a regular feature of the racing calendar until the posh local residents objected!
Brooklands is a place that gives me mixed feelings - the day I went to the museum with David was the only time we have ever really fought - who knows why that's a good idea after three bottles of wine.....all we know is the air guitars came out, we broke a CD and we woke up in the morning in the complete certainty that we'd dumped each other in the night. Very silly really.
It wasn't the great race circuit's fault though and I'd highly recommend it as a great day out.
