23rd october 2009 - slow down, you move too fast....

OK – it’s another of these – I’ve tried to claim my soul back today.

I’ve been to Uni today – a three hour round trip in travelling time for a single hour of lectures, which is a pain in the bum really. I have, though managed to spend a sort session with my course tutor while he did my reference for the next bit of my education (and I submitted it after he’d done his stuff so that’s now off my plate) and I’ve also handed in another piece of homework on day 1.

I made the mistake of calling Uni “college” the other day in front of some of my young student friends and discovered this is a complete no-no. You’re not allowed to call it college any more, even though when you hear people of my generation talking about their university days they almost invariably use the term. I suppose that’s since about half of the schools in the country have started to call themselves “Community Colleges” or colleges of another sort – anyway, students at UNI get really niffed off if you call it college.

Then I’ve been home to do the ironing, then to work to work-work and college-work (I am allowed to do studying if I’m not busy). Following on from last week, when I hurt my back doing college work at work, I decided to work in a different part of my office today in order to help my back, which is still playing up terribly.

The upshot was that I spent about 3 hours sitting in one place doing studying (Chemistry) so I think my soul may have found its way back to me briefly. We’ll see.

:) The inverted snobbery of it crosses generations yet again. Years ago, like you, we were considered very non-U to say Uni instead of college. Now it's come full circle again. In any event, you seem to have a great grasp of the real essential of learning acquisition and assignment behaviour. Keep it going: slowly but surely, and then you won't meet yourself coming around corners.
