Poor old DM has been up ladders today – we’ve got a problem with our electrics in the house and without going into long and tedious detail we’ve discussed the potential problem with our electrician and decided to have a go at sorting it out ourselves. This is a self-preservation thing because we’re broke!
So, a long ladder was bought as a wedding present and DM climbed it to work on the outdoor bit of the problem. It wasn’t much fun for him and I was no help because I’m petrified of heights so I stood at the bottom issuing instructions like “be careful” and asking questions like “are you OK?”
Then he needed to get into the loft to do the rest of the work and here he is, steel toecap boots on, sitting in the loft hatch before disappearing fully to finish the job.
The only problem with all of this is that the remedial work he did didn’t fix the problem so now we’re stumped as to what to do next. We’ve done all of the investigative work we can do and we think we’ve narrowed it down to one thing in particular but the one thing we’ve learned is that electrics are never that straightforward and that it’s quite possible that the problem we think we’ve uncovered is in fact another red herring and not the cause at all.
The upshot of this is that we’ve both spent a day trying to resolve it without success and we’re still going to have to pay someone to come in to look at it. It’s frustrating, to put it mildly.
Still, without trying we wouldn’t have known would we……?
