28th July 2009 - sweet in every way

You’ll have seen all of our mis-matched crockery if you’ve been to David’s gallery of wedding pics. It was all bought in charity shops in the lead-up to the big day.

DM was worried it’d look tatty but I thought it looked fab on the day – really colourful and jolly. I’ve taken about half of it back to charity shops since the wedding and most of the rest is going back from whence it came too – I’ve simply not had enough muscle to carry it all back yet.

One tea set went to my little sister who’s done nothing but mither about the fact that our Mum gave me a tea set she’d always wanted. I’ve used it for years to put chocolate mousses or cappuccino mousses into when I’ve had dinner parties. I managed to find an identical set for the glorious price of £1.50 so it got wrapped up and sent to Jan after the big day.

Another Janet (my flower lady) took a tea set home with her. She chose well because the cups she liked came with a teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug too so she was happy.

We’ve also kept a whole dinner service, bought for next-to-nothing and now being used by our guests in our flat.

This little sugar bowl is so cute that I can’t bear to send it back to the charity shop. It’s staying with us and I’ll get it out of the cupboard every now and then when I need cheering up or when we have guests.

I buy old crockery from charity shops too....it's quite funny: when the little old ladies go to wrap them carefully for me, I tell them not to bother because I'm going to take them home and smash them to pieces!
(I use the shards in my mosaics).
