David’s Mum’s friend baked our cake(s) – in fact, she baked three cakes, a “normal” one, one without nuts for David and James (H) who are both allergic to nuts and one with nuts but no cinnamon for Jan who is allergic to cinnamon. It would not have been good to cause anyone an anaphylactic shock by eating wedding cake!
In a sense it’s all academic to me as I don’t like cake (of any description) at all so I didn’t even sample a small piece, I’m ashamed to say, after all of the effort that went into making it. In fact, I didn’t sample any of the “puddings” I made on the day either – I’m a completely savoury food person.
We were asked to choose a design for the cake’s decoration from a book of wedding cake designs but they were all very elaborate and “posh” so we asked if we could have wild daisies, dog roses and bees……and we got them thanks to the patience and goodwill of the cake’s maker.
This is a shot of the detail of the cake, just before the last piece got parcelled up and given away. I know you’re supposed to send all of your guests home with a little bit of cake wrapped in a paper napkin but somehow it got missed out of our schedule. It was one of those “attention to detail” things that I was talking about that got missed on the day. I suppose I could have cut it into small pieces and posted it to the guests but I didn’t even think of that until after I’d given it all away.
So, to any guests who were expecting or hoping for cake, I’m sorry but if you haven’t had any by now, you’re not going to get any because I chunked it up into big pieces and gave it to those folks who turned up in big groups over the next couple of days to take home and share.
DM polished the last no nuts bit off a couple of days after the wedding, declaring it delicious. Thanks to Margaret (David’s Mum) for making sure we got a cake that met with our wild theme.
