single no. 1 ~ lean on me

As I sort out and put together the remaining shots for my traveller gallery,
I noticed that I shot quite a number of people in solitary. Not sure why they tend to attract my attention.
How about you? Who usually caught your eyes first? The young, the old, the couples or the singles?

yes, solitary people stand out somehow, become a subject -- here: superbly framed in the doorway, and even wearing the right colours!

Reminds me to the song of billy holiday "solitude"....the attraction of this kind of shots for me is - to recognize myself in this lonely people... Great and sensual shot Ai Li!

I agree with all have been said. Steve is right, they are emotionally strong, as an illustration of our condition, and esthetic too as they lead to the essential. Love what Kal said about the image of the duel with the photographer... an image which became then a kind of miror for the viewer. Love this one, greatly framed, with an (relax) attitude and an (attentive) look.

I really like the balance on this shot. subject is well placed and his mood is thought provoking. Solitude is a very strong subject on its own. It makes a compelling, thought provoking image - as it brings abt a certain amt of intimacy with the subject you rarely get to experience in group shots. Like Kal says, its you and the subject confronting one on one. Often in the role of the curious photographer and the subject lost in space, and fiercely guarding the privacy of his thoughts. well seen!

Maybe when you are 2 or more, your attention goes to the group and you are less open to the rest of the world. I like the idea of the duel, it takes sometimes so much energy to shoot! Great image. Love the expression of the guy.

I think you are exactly what you shoot to. So I 'm using to see and shoot people in solitary. The building is a perfect frame for this subject. Love it! Roberto

I consider images like this to be at the core of street photography, the one-to-one confronattion between the photographer trying to be the invisible witness, while the subject, chance and the photographers skill (or weakness) balances the cards. Yes groups are fun, but when its just you and someone else, it's like a duel at dawn Ai Li....a Great GREAT image. K
