These flies resemble hornets.
In the south, this fly is sometimes called the "Good News Bee"
for its habit of hovering in front of a person or object.

I found one of these "bugs"? It looks just like this picture.I live in Ind are they found here also? This one had a heck of a stinger on it.

This image is listed as an 'unknown wasp.' It is, however, not a wasp at all but is a hover fly--( Milesia virginiensis ). I have several pictures of it taken last summer in Arlington, Virginia.
