Dead Gray Rat Snake

Copyright © Rex Roach

Intentionally killed by a motorist. This is a prime example of the "kill all snakes" mentality of the general public.
Rat snakes are non-venomous, harmless and extremely valuable, particularly around rural and farming communities because they help control pests.
Their habitat is slowly being reduced due to land development and cutting down of trees.
Unfortunately, Rat Snakes are too often the victim of people's lack of knowledge and fear of snakes.
