These are the prolegs of a Polyphemus Silk Moth caterpillar, each one ending in a pad with minute hooklets or barbs, more commonly called crochets. All caterpillars have these, in varying numbers and placement, and the barbed pads allow the insect to move along whatever it is clinging to. I think they are pretty cool looking!
