Garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis)

Ottawa East

The unseasonably warm weather encouraged this small snake out to a trail where I almost stepped on the poor thing. It wasn't impressed. A completely harmless snake native to the area.

Though it wasn't "impressed" it has posed nicely for you.

Great shot of this late sun-bather Christine. I wish I had a few more in my garden to help control my vole problem.

Nice capture!

100% harmless, glad to have some of them in the gardens since they feed on small rodents, grasshoppers and other less desirable little things.

This cute little snake is out late. Hope he finds his way! BV
Growing up if someone said 'snake' I was the kid who would run over to catch it!
Check it out for awhile then let it go! Snakes are better in the wild.
Plenty of snake stories to go around!

Every once in a while I come across Rattlesnakes on my walks.

When I was young and I saw one of these for the first time it freaked me out that it was poisonous. My neighbour picked it up and told me it was harmless and whether I want to keep it as a pet for a while. I said "NOOO!" V
