Compton tortoiseshell butterfly (Nymphalis l-album)

Barryvale, ON

The warm sun attracted this butterfly to the side of a building where the concrete had heated up from the sun. This species will overwinter as an adult, probably in any cracks found around the building. It was already investigating some potential spots.
