Winter firefly (Ellychnia corrusca)

Reveler Conservation Area

as the name suggests, these fireflies can sometimes be seen on tree trunks in late winter. They are active in the daytime, unlike most fireflies, and unlike most other firefly species, they don't emit light.

Lovely contrast between the texture of the firefly and the trunk. Interesting information.

Fine detail in this closeup, and interesting that it doesn't emit light, too. V.
