I watched an eastern comma butterfly lay eggs on several stinging nettles in my garden yesterday. I grow the nettles for just this purpose and in the past have had red admirals also lay their eggs on the plant. I hope the eggs survive, but often they don't, eaten by any number of predatory insects. Notice how the eggs are stacked, one on top of the other!
