Ichneumonid wasp (Megarhyssa macrurus), female

Central Experimental Farm

Some years ago we watched a couple of these fantastic female wasps searching a maple tree to find larvae of another huge wasp (the Pigeon Horntail), into which they lay eggs. That long whip-like thing is the ovipositor, not a stinger!
