I have used the S3IS for a few years now. I love this thing! I've taken it through the highlands of Cape Breton and up a mountain in Jasper Alberta. Used it in -20c weather and it's still going strong. I like the add on lenses that you can buy separately. The Wide Converter WD-DC58A, Tele-Converter TC-DC58B, and the Close-Up Lens 500D. They snap on in a second.
I've taken approximately 9000 photos with my S3 so far. And I'm sure it's good for at least that many more. If anyone wants a good travel camera, I think you would be very happy with the PowerShot S3 IS.

I added comments to this forum in October 2006 having had my S3iS for 2 months. I can now say that 12 months on from that time, I am still loving my S3. Ive now taken over 10,000 images with it and its still as new with no problems at all. The images are very good indeed even at full zoom I get pin sharp images. The Image Stabiliser is superb. Ive taken hand held shots as low as 1/15th of a second and they are razor sharp. I do a lot of shots in graveyards and churches and its especially good for low light shots like them.

So here goes to another 10,000 images through next year.

I have had my s3 for a month now and find it has met and exceeded my expectations. I bought it on a run out deal (S5 is latest model) for a cost price deal. I love the ability to take it everywhere being a little lighter than my panasonic FZ20, the pop out LCD for low and high angle shots is great, the super macro ability works really well, intervalometer (not available in the s5) is a bonus. Movies are a sharp and vibrant but use up a lot of memory until I convert them to mpeg4 in my PC.

This is a full function camera that stands up well against the DSLR's. Used to iso 400 without any noise evident and acceptable at iso 800, where as my pansonic noises out at iso 200. Image stabiliser works very well.

Have a look at these images for yourself , , and

I've had the S3 for a couple of months now. While I have managed to take pictures I couldn't have gotten with another camera, I also have some problem with purple fringing in landscape shots and I find the pictures somewhat "soft." Post-processing in Photoshop clears up a lot of these problems but I wish I didn't have to jump through so many hoops to get a really good picture. Overall, a satisfactory ultra zoom camera. Improvement in sharpness would help.

I got my Powershot last year in May and it was a good decision to take this camera. I took it with me to several vacations and took some really great pictures that I wouldn´t have been able to take with my old no name camera. There are still many functions that I don´t know very much about and I really want to learn more about photography and how to take great pictures. My favourites are sun and beach pictures

Just bought my Powershot and I love it. It is my first journey into digital after many many years of film. Not only did I go digital, but I was a die hard Nikon fan....this camera has made me a convert.....

Ive been using my S3 for almost 2 months now and have shot over 2000 images with it. Awesome camera in many ways. It produces amazing sharp and colourful pictures. The Color Accent Mode is a great idea too! I mainly use ISO 80 & ISO 100 to keep the noise down. But so far havent had any problems with noise. The Image Stabiliser has to be its biggest asset. Ive take shots as slow as 1/3 of a second hand held and they have been pin sharp!!
Another point is: Ive always had trouble with purple fringing in every other dig cam Ive owned. But the S3 hardy shows any of it at all, even at full 432mm.
Great all round camera. Id recommend it to anyone to take their photography that bit futher but who dont want the hassle os a D-SLR. I nearly bought a Nikon D50 but glad I went for the S3 without a doubt.

I thought I wanted a micro-sized camera and bought 2 different brands of compact cameras just to return them because of sub-par picture quality. After that experience, I decided to give the new Powershot S3 IS a chance. Sure it might not be small enough to fit in a pocket, but what a camera! The pictures are great with sharp images from corner to corner, a 12x zoom lens, and an extremely effective Optical Image Stabilizer. The benefits of the the Optical Stabilizer cannot be understated on a camera with such a long zoom range. When you zoom into maximum telephoto every slight movement of your hands results in a huge movement at the lens. With the stabilizer though it eliminates that problem. The pictures have low noise levels from 80-400 ISO, I have not tried the ISO 800 yet, though it should be nice to have in a pinch. The tilt and swivel LCD is awesome, you'll wonder how you got along without it before. Battery life is excellent and I cannot underemphasize the benefit of the camera running on standard AA batteries. If ever you find yourself in the middle of a day of shooting and the batteries die simply pop into a local convenience store and pick up some more. I would suggest you purchase a good set of rechargeable NiMH batteries though. The movie mode is great with the ability to zoom, a dedicated record/stop button, and stereo sound! Plus, finally a Canon digital PowerShot with a live histogram! You will not be disappointed in this camera.

I use the Powershot S3 since 2 weeks, and I'm really enthusiastic about it. It's middle sized, and has still an optical 12x zoom. I love it!
