Paper wasp (Polistes fuscatus)

Reveler Conservation Area

A native species of wasp similar in habits to the introduced Polistes dominula. It makes a small paper nest attached to any number of locations, including inside bird houses, under eaves, under rocks, etc. These guys can sting, but they are relatively passive compared to wasps such as yellowjackets.
