Giant leopard moth caterpillar (Hypercompe scribonia), #8146

Foley Mountain Conservation Area. When this large caterpillar is disturbed, it rolls up and exposes red bands (intersegmental rings)on its body. It turns into a very handsome white and black moth. Click Next to see the caterpillar at full length. This caterpillar is in the tiger moth family.
